I'm Emily Campaniel, and this is the Fox True Crime podcast. The summer season marks a time of

recreation and relaxation for families

across the country. But for Joan Rogers and her two teenage daughters, their summer vacation

took a deadly turn. In 1989, their bodies were found floating in Tampa Bay, and for years,

their killer went undetected. That is, until one special woman reopened the

case. Today, we're looking back at my conversation with retired FBI special agent Janem Monroe,

and our discussion about her impressive career as a woman in the bureau, and how she was able

to catch a cold-blooded killer.

For weeks, Joan Rogers and her two daughters, 17-year-old Michelle and 14-year-old Christy,

had eyed the calendar, eagerly awaiting the day of May 26, 1989.

It wasn't just summer break that they were looking forward to.

The girls, who dutifully did their chores and worked the family dairy farm,

were excited for their first ever vacation away from home.

Their father, Hal Rogers, volunteered to stay back and tend the farm in Wilshire, Ohio,

so that the three women could enjoy a much-deserved

trip in the Florida Sun.
