Leaders hold emergency meeting on support for Ukraine.

In these last hours, in Brussels at the NATO headquarters.

Ms. Vanderlion is in attendance. So are the leaders of other parts of the NATO alliance. However,

this is about Ukraine and it's about putting together a force that can sustain a peace if there is to be one.

What of this conversation is necessary after Mr. Trump's meeting with Mr. Zelensky in the Oval

Office on February 28, 2025? I welcome Cliff May, the president and founder of the

Foundation for the Defense of Democracy, writing about these matters to connect Friday the 28th

with the scrambling that's going on in Europe right now about Ukraine. Cliff, a very good evening to you. I don't want to

rush to conclusion to say that all these dots can be easily connected, but it would appear that after

last Friday's meeting that some members of NATO and some members of the EU have finally figured out that they've got to

take care of themselves. Was that long coming? Was that long due? Do we believe it, Cliff? Good evening to you.

Good evening to you. I think it was long overdue. There has been on the part of key NATO members,

Germany, France, others, a tendency to say,

if there's a problem, I'm sure the U.S. can take care of it.

We have other things to do like closing down our nuclear power plants, importing coal from South Africa while telling South Africans, please don't burn coal, try to get wind and solar power instead.

The Europeans need to step up and be much more involved than they were.

And I think they are seeing that under President Trump because this is a war, the worst war since World War II taking place in Europe. And as I've

argued many times, if President Vladimir Putin is allowed to conquer Ukraine, that will not sate

his appetite. It will wet his appetite.
