18th. Vice President J.D. Vance is currently in Rome with Italian Prime Minister, Georgia Maloney,

a day after she met with President Donald Trump at the White House.

In a news conference, Vance sounded positive about negotiations with Russia over ending the conflict in Ukraine.

Even in the past 24 hours, we think we have some interesting things to report on, of course, in private.

So these negotiations, I won't prejudge them, but we do feel optimistic that we can hopefully bring this war, this very brutal war, to a close.

This comes just hours after Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has been in Paris in talks with Ukrainian and EU leaders,

said the US may, quote, move on from trying to end the war if a deal isn't reached in the next few days.

The White House has also released a joint statement with Italy, underscoring that the, quote, war on Ukraine must end,

highlighting the quote, strategic alliance across security, economic

and technological issues between the two countries.
