I'd like to focus today on the history of Emma's family and go into a little more detail about Emma's life,

Very exciting stuff. So as we look at some of these hard questions about Emma's family and their

relationship, let's just go back

in history. The Hales had been living in the United Colonies for a long time. In fact, way before

they were united. In 1635, the first Hale, they pronounced their name a little different, spelled

it Haled, Haldiled hold yeah he healed in some

in some accounts um came over as an indentured servant um now emma's mother's line the lewis line

were on the mayflower they were yeah the they were all part of the great migration, as it's called, you know,

when Puritans came over for that 30-year period, trying to find a place here in the New

World at the time and established homes, established farms there. And so the Hale family was part of that.

They came down further south and were part of the settlements down there.

But was it the Lewis family was on the Mayflower itself?

The Lewis family was on the Mayflower itself, yes.

And both of Emma's parents, Isaac Hale and Elizabeth

Lewis, had nice long lives and we can trace back their history, back to good old Vermont,

just like many of the larger families when there wasn't enough property for the

other sons, they went to lands that were open in 1791 when Vermont has opened.
