Hello, welcome back to Come Follow Church History. I'm Lynn Hilton Wilson, here to talk about the hard questions with honest answers as part of the Scripture Central team. We try to build enduring faith in Jesus Christ by illuminating the restored scripture, making them more accessible and defensible and comprehensible. And today we get to look at sections 27 and 29.

What are the hard questions there? We're just dealing with a two-month period from August to

September of 1830, but these chapters, these sections are filled with information on the Lord's

return. And so the questions I'd like to deal with are how is Zion going to be

established? Why did the Lord say he's coming so soon? And what did the prophet Joseph say about the

Second Coming versus his contemporaries? This is another one of those instances where Joseph

appears to be a product of his environment. What are the signs of the Second Coming that are

described here?

What's the word eschatology? What's a pre-millanist? What's a post-millennialist? Well, the short

answer to all of these is given by Elder Maxwell. The world is in commotion, but the church

is in forward motion. And I appreciate the message that this is all part of the Lord's plan. This is the

plan for the church and the world. So let's listen and follow the prophet. As usual, I'd like to

start with a timeline. But just five months before this section is given, the church is organized

at the Whitmer Home.

And in June, on 9th of June, we have our first church conference where they read the Articles in Covenants, Section 20, 21.

Also in June of that year, we received the commandment that Joseph is to begin the translation of the Bible.

And this stimulates a lot of questions on the second coming as well. And on Zion,

by July of that year, Emma has questions and receives this beautiful revelation also in

section 26. All these are given in harmony. By August, section 27 is received. And that's

what we're going to start today they're still in harmony but by
