Good morning and welcome to the Independent Republic of Mike Graham right here on Talk Radio.

It is Armist this day, 101 years after the guns fell silent on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month at the end of the First World War.

Today, as ever, we will commemorate that day.

And remember the fallen with two minutes silence at 11 o'clock this morning.

The sacrifices made by those brave men and all of our personnel, are brought to the fore at this time of year. Poppies are worn,

wreaths are laid, and parades are organised. But we should really remember them all year round,

shouldn't we? And this morning, I would welcome your stories from those times.

Tales from your parents or from your grandparents, from your uncles, from your aunties about what they went through, the things they witnessed and the hardships they endured.

We will be pensive this morning, but we would also be hopeful that our political leaders are

finally recognising that things must improve for our armed forces personnel.

Labour's Jeremy Corbyn is offering to improve conditions for serving soldiers and their families,

while Boris Johnson is calling for an end to the prosecution of veterans of the conflict in Northern Ireland.

Will these be more broken campaign promises, or will the veterans of this country,

and the serving people in the armed forces as well, finally be treated with the respect that they deserve?
