largest whale species on the planet, weighing upwards of 220,000 pounds and measuring

up to 65 feet long. They get their names, as you might have guessed, from the shape of their heads,

most fascinating things about them is their vocalizations.

Correct. But one thing that has fascinated scientists for over five decades is how far their vocalizations travel and why.

So in the 1970s, some marine scientists proposed a theory that

baleen whales, like the bowhead, might be able to communicate across literally hundreds of miles.
