So fear of the other is something that is in all humans.

So in as much as all humans are social beings,

the trade-off is that we know that there's so much to gain.

We can bring practical things,

like resources work better together, farm land, do all that.

But we also have belongingness needs, we have love,

we have all these things that tie us to other human beings.

The trade-off is that we're also letting people in

that could harm us.

That's just basically like the fact of as an individual person,

if you include other people in your life,

there's lots to gain, but there's also fear.

And the human's social psychological motivation

largely comes down to these two things.
