So up guys, Derek, more pleads, more dates.com. Today I wanted to pay homage to bodybuilders of the past that have

0:08.2

significantly downsized and improved their health status as a result. The problem, a lot of these videos that are what happens, you know, when bodybuilders retire, what happened? They're basically focusing on the deterioration of these guys' physiques and, oh, look how, you know,

0:25.4

the shock value of how much these guys have regressed. I like to focus on the health aspect of

0:31.2

bodybuilding. So the problem with being a 250, 260, 300 pound lean bodybuilder is it's extremely stressful in the cardiovascular

0:41.6

system. And I'm sure you're well aware of that. I've discussed this in many videos in the past.

0:46.1

And the fact is it's not sustainable to walk around at 300 pounds lean for years and years.

0:52.1

It's perhaps something that you can get away with

0:54.8

sporadically throughout a bodybuilding stint to compete at a high level, but long term, even

1:01.5

potentially short term. It's not sustainable and you're never going to see a guy live past,

1:06.3

you know, 50 years old who's maintaining a 300 pound lean physique, realistically. Most of these guys are

1:12.5

going to have severe cardiovascular issues in their 30s, their 40s, perhaps even younger in some

1:17.5

cases. And I want to kind of, instead of highlight how much these guys have lost, I want to highlight

1:27.1

how much they've gained out of the mental strength and fortitude it takes

1:33.6

to downsize.

1:34.7

The problem with bodybuilding is it's extremely addicting.

1:38.1

You can just imagine like if I was to ask you, you know, do you want to lose 30 pounds

1:44.1

of muscle that you've built in order to gain 10 years on your life, you know, do you want to lose 30 pounds of muscle that you've built in order

1:45.8

to gain 10 years on your life? You know, some people would actually think hard about that.

1:50.0

And especially when it comes down to like that's even like a completely, you know, some people

1:57.0

wouldn't even consider that kind of thing. They just think, oh, I'll build a good physique and

2:00.7

it's healthy and I maintain it long

2:02.0

term, blah, blah, blah.
