All right, you knew it was coming in our discussion of stewardship.

Today we come to the stewardship of our treasure. Literally, we're talking now

about money and material things. I saved it because it is not the most important stewardship.

It is really one of the least things we have, and yet it is one of the greatest indicators of the

place God has in our life.

It is not about what you do with your money.

It is rather about what the Lord and the Lord's work means to you.

I bring you today to the last page of the Old Testament,

to Malachi chapter 3, and immediately somebody is going to say,

well, we're New Testament Christians,

yes. And there are a host of giving principles scattered throughout the New Testament, the epistles,

and I would challenge you to read and study them. God loveth a cheerful giver. They sent once and again

to our necessity on and on and on, the principles are there.

But I bring you to Malachi chapter 3 because I think it's one of the fullest

treatments of how God views our treasure and how we should view it.

And I would also point out to you that the matter of the tithe, which is often debated

and some people disagree on, the 10% belonging to the Lord, being owed to God,

given back to God, was actually in place before the giving of the law.
