In this podcast, Dr. Berg clears up the confusion about apple cider vinegar and the skin.  The pH of the skin is 5.5 (acidic) – 7 is neutral, below 7 is acidic and higher than 7 is alkaline. The sweat and the oil(sebum) in the skin are between 4 – 5.5 acidic.

The pH of apple cider vinegar is between 2 to 3 and is 100x more acid than skin so yes it could irritate and burn the skin. Always dilute it and don’t put it directly on your skin.

Dilute 1 tbsp. in an 8oz of water.

Health Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar for the Skin:

1. Reduce Bacteria

2. Clean Pores

3. Make the skin softer and more elastic

*it will not get rid of acne because it is a vitamin A or a situation where there are too many androgens coming from too much insulin.

0:49.0

up so of my skin is it going to make things worse or whatever.

0:52.5

So let's just talk about it.

0:53.9

The pH of your skin is 5.5.

0:58.0

So it's acidic.

0:59.4

Neutral is 7.

1:01.0

Anything lower is more acidic. Anything higher than seven is more alkaline.

1:06.5

As we go from one number, let's say seven down to six, six would be ten times as acid, okay? And if you go down to five, that would

1:18.0

be ten times ten that's a hundred times as acidic, okay? And that's how it works. And the sweat on your skin and the oil, which is called

1:27.3

seabum, is also acidic. It's between 4 to 5.5. But the pH for apple cider vinegar is between 2 and 3. So apple cider

1:38.0

vinegar is more than a hundred times more acid than your skin. So yes, it's going to irritate it and yes it can burn your

1:46.4

skin. So this is why you always want to dilute it, don't put it directly on your skin.

1:52.3

Okay, it's an acid. I mean stomach acid is between

1:56.5

one and three, so you wouldn't put hydicloric acid on your skin. So you dilute it. You take

2:01.2

one tablespoon in a glass of water, and then you take that mixture and you put that on the skin.

2:06.0

Now why is that good for the skin?

2:08.0

Well, because the skin thrives in an acidic medium.

2:12.0

So if you add

2:13.6

outside of vinegar to it, you will reduce certain bacteria that shouldn't be on there.
