Summary

Today's episode is about positive psychology and how I use it in the work I do. First, we will define what positive psychology is and talk about its origin and purpose. Then we will go through the PERMAH model, and finally, we will discuss post-traumatic growth and why we must remain curious about it.

What You Will Learn In This Episode:

- What positive psychology is, and where it comes from

- What is the PERMAH model, and how it can help us increase happiness and decrease anxiety

- Why it seems impossible to think about growth at some stages of narcissistic abuse

- What it means to do the somatic work, and how it can help us

Focusing on the six pillars of the PERMAH model when we are coming out to heal our narcissistic trauma is the best way of levelling up our well-being. If we focus too often on the things we don't want from our past, we might get stuck in the past, and then growing will become more challenging.

And I would really love to share that gift with you so that maybe you could look at using an

1:01.4

element of positive psychology too. So some of you might be thinking, well, what is positive

1:05.7

psychology? Well, psychology is a study of what is wrong with people, and we've spent many, many years

1:11.9

studying that, where positive psychology, it's a relatively new science. It was founded probably

1:17.4

about 25 years ago now by a man called Martin Zelligman, and positive psychology is really

1:23.1

the science of what is right with people. And what they did was they did this huge study over the years

1:29.6

of not looking at what was wrong with people, but actually the people who were thriving and

1:34.3

flourishing in life, you know, what were they doing? Because surely that's how we want to live our

1:38.2

life, right? So it was really looking at, well, what is it they're doing? What are they focusing on

1:43.3

to live this higher level

1:45.8

living, this kind of life of increased well-being? And they started off with thousands of different

1:52.3

traits. And they narrowed it all down and they came up with what we call the perma profile.
