In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back to talk about spring football being just around the corner in the Big Ten. Spring football kicked off this week for the Boilermakers with new Purdue head football coach Barry Odom and other programs will be starting their allotment of 15 practices in the coming days and weeks. The fellas also discuss Big Ten Media Days moving to Las Vegas this year, maybe the greatest move in the history of college football. Mark your calendars for July 22-24 and plan to come to Sin City and Ryan and Dave promise they will buy you a beer. While conference realignment likely will be paused after the new ACC deal with Florida State and Clemson, it does set up for fireworks in 2030 when the Big Ten's media deal comes up and the exit fees for the ACC go way down. In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back to (finally) recap Ohio State's victory over Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff. The guys breakdown the game from the impressive 10 minute touchdown drive for the Fighting Irish to start the game, and the even more impressive answer by the Buckeyes who scored four-straight touchdowns to take a 28-7 lead out of the gate. The guys talk about OSU's domination throughout the playoffs, bouncing back after the crushing loss to rival Michigan. At the time there were calls for head coach Ryan Day to be fired, but our Ryan talked about the funniest scenario being the Buckeyes losing to Michigan and then winning the national championship, something that nearly happened two years ago. Well this season it did happen and most of those Ohio State fans that wanted Day fired are now celebrating the team's first title in a decade. Heading into the long offseason, the guys talk about a major coordinator move, with OSU defensive coordinator Jim Knowles signing a record $3.1 million annual contract to become Penn State's new DC. In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods preview the 7 games in the Big Ten conference for week eight, including another ranked-on-ranked matchup with No. 24 Michigan coming off a bye on the road taking on No. 22 Illinois coming off that 50-49 overtime thriller. In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods recap all 13 Big Ten week three games, reveal their newest Big Ten Power rankings, discuss how their picks against the spread went (Ryan was 6-4, David 5-5) and update their mythical Pac-12 Power Rankings. They also talk about the latest news in the conference realignment world where the Pac-12 is raiding the Mountain West, taking San Diego State, Fresno State, Boise State and Colorado State in an attempt to rebuild the once proud Conference of Champions. There were a lot more blowouts this week than what we have seen so far this season, some that were good for the conference and some that were bad. The Ducks pasted Oregon State on the road while Minnesota, Nebraska and Michigan State won by a combined score of 101-3 against overmatched opponents. But in more important games Wisconsin wasn't competitive against Alabama, Notre Dame spanked Purdue 66-7, Washington State topped the Huskies in the Apple Cup and Michigan struggled to beat Arkansas State in the Big House. Maryland did bounce back with a nice win on the road at Virginia and Indiana continues to impress, humiliating UCLA in the Rose Bowl for both team's Big Ten openers. He will try to improve on that mark in 2024 with a tougher schedule and most home games on Martin Field while Ryan Field is rebuilt over the next two seasons. Ryan Walters is also heading into year two of his Purdue tenure and is looking to move the program forward after a 4-8 campaign in 2023. In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are continuing their Big Ten season previews with Penn State and Iowa. First up Daniel Gallen from Lions247 joins the show to talk about what head coach James Franklin has planned for the 2024 college football season and if this Penn State program can finally get over the hump and make an appearance in the now expanded College Football Playoffs. We'll talk about some of the major changes to the roster, bringing in a pair of new coordinators and the progress of quarterback Drew Allar. Next we welcome in David Eickholt from HawkeyeInsider to talk about how head coach Kirk Ferentz plans to improve Iowa's offense that was one of the worst in FBS last season. The Hawkeyes have been exceptional on defense and special teams, but the limitations on offense have prevented Iowa from achieving anything beyond winning the Big Ten West. Even with divisions eliminated, Iowa's schedule is still very manageable and another appearance in the conference championship game is within reach if the offense can turn things around. In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are in studio talking about the latest development in the conference realignment craziness, with UCLA forced to pay rival Cal $10 million a year for three years in "Calimony," taking a chunk out of the Bruins Big Ten media rights windfall. On Tuesday the UC Board of Regents adopted the Calimony proposal to help the Golden Bears' athletic department after the Bruins left the Pac-12 for greener pastures. UC system president Michael Drake originally recommended the $10 million per year amount last week and intended to extend those payments through 2030. Following the vote they (thankfully for UCLA) scaled back the payments to just three years with the possibility to revisit the decision at that time. The guys also have made a decision about the future of the podcast with the Conference of Champions holding on through its final weeks of existence. As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are in studio finishing up their deep-dive into all of the former Pac-12 football programs, talking about how the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins finished up their respective spring football sessions. On the USC side, head coach Lincoln Riley had to figure out a way to replace Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams and fix a defense that was one of the worst in the Power Five the past two seasons. Ryan talks about how Miller Moss looked and if the defensive staff changes, including former UCLA defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn, will be enough to make that defense respectable again. For UCLA new head coach DeShaun Foster got his first chance to coach up his guys in Westwood, bringing some excitement to a fanbase that was starved for attention by the former regime. Dave talks about what this new-look Bruin team accomplished this spring and how active Foster was in the transfer portal. As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat. For the video simulcasts of our POC please subscribe to your YouTube channel! In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are in studio and joined remotely by the Oregon Ducks football expert Matt Prehm from DuckTerritory.com, talking about Oregon's spring football game that happened over the weekend, how active the Ducks have been in the NCAA Transfer Portal, the move to the Big Ten, the battle to replace Bo Nix and how Oregon players did in the NFL Draft. Of the four teams moving from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten, the Ducks appear to be in the best position to succeed with a stacked roster and stable coaching staff. The guys talk about Oregon's chances to take that next step and what potential moves Dan Lanning could make to compete with the blueblood programs in the B1G. The guys also talk about how the conference set a record with 43 Pac-12 players drafted plus Michael Penix's bizarre situation in Atlanta. In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are in studio and joined remotely by the Washington Huskies football expert Chris Fetters from Dawgman.com, talking about UW's spring football with Jedd Fisch at the helm, the move to the Big Ten, the battle to replace Michael Penix and how the Huskies are navigating the open transfer portal window. Coming off a run to the national championship game, Washington is in rebuilding mode after losing its head coach, athletic director and a Heisman Trophy finalist quarterback. Fetters talks about how that transition from Kalen DeBoer to Fisch has been and why there is optimism in Seattle that UW can have a strong first season in the B1G. The guys also discuss the new NCAA ruling that allows programs to help broker NIL deals for players (though schools are still not directly paying players) and officially declares the new two member Pac-12 in this two-year grace period as no longer an autonomous five conference. Plus there are five more Pac-12 spring games this weekend with Colorado, Arizona St., Oregon, UCLA, Washington St. and Arizona concluding spring their spring practices on the Pac-12 Network.
