0:00.0 | Good morning. Welcome to Sawcast number 35. This production of Sawcast is brought to you courtesy of Jocke Willing Productions and his talented staff along with |
0:11.0 | Saw Chronicles. My name is John Striker Meyer. I'll be your host today and I'm joined by Chad our technician. Thank you, Chad. And today, for a special guest, we have Bill Werther. |
0:23.4 | Bill and I served together at Foodbuy and later at CCN. And we want to get into a story or two with Bill. Bill, thanks for joining us today. Well, glad to be here. Indeed. And we're going to go to on the ground. And there's a little bit more of a background. This would be one of a story that has like a story within a story. Right. But it involves one of the more unique. |
0:52.4 | Well, two unique characters aside for yourself on your team at CCN during 69. And I like to start off with a little bit in this is early March. And two of the people we're talking about here is Ricardo Gonzalez Davis. And when I got to CCN, I thought he was like a PFC. He was young, energetic. |
1:21.4 | All baby faced. Yeah, all baby faced. And we had a formation somewhere and he came out into formation. He was knee seven. I'm going to WTF. This is right. And he had been in the Army so much longer than I realized, but he had great experience. And he was on copperhead with you, Jim Lamont. And then, um, the first scene I want to talk about a little bit here is you and Jim. |
1:51.4 | And Ricardo had run three or four missions that were dry holes, which is in and of itself on precedent. Yes, that doesn't doesn't go very often. No. And the classical example is the one we're talking about be be earlier today, where your team was in your underground for five days, you observed the enemy due to reports. And then at the end, it's like you're end of your five days, you went home with a successful mission without a firefight. Right. So you had several like that. And then. |
2:22.4 | There was a we're back at the club now. And I want to give a little flavor of Jim Lamont here. And to go into the book on the ground says one afternoon, a rent. That's a rear echelon mother. |
2:39.4 | I came into the recon bar while Lamont, Werther and Davis were discussing their string of dry holes. The ref came up to Davis and said, you're the one who ain't been nowhere and you ain't done nothing. |
2:55.4 | It was loud enough that everybody in the bar heard it and the bar came to a pause. Davis stood silent, not Lamont. |
3:05.4 | A Detroit, born, street fighter and an expert in the Okinawan martial arts style called it's Shimru. |
3:13.4 | Did I say that right? I think so close enough for government working. Yes, I know what Lamont stepped in front of Davis. |
3:20.4 | And he told the ref, you got it all wrong. It's me who ain't been nowhere and ain't done nothing. You owe him an apology. |
3:29.4 | When it was clear and apology wouldn't be forthcoming, Lamont pushed the big mouth outside and once again quietly recrested he apologized. |
3:41.4 | Instead of repenting, the ramp through what turned out to be his first and last punch, the Wari Lamont broke the fellow's jaw and knocked out a few teeth with a roundhouse kick that sent the desk jockey sprawling. |
3:58.4 | When the ref stood up and again moved towards Lamont, he received a broken arm and a few cracked ribs for his stupidity. |
4:07.4 | Stagging to his feet, the bleeding ref made a last slow motion lunge at Lamont who could naturally fellow that he was, decided to take pity on the poor bastard. |
4:19.4 | Instead of annihilating him on a spot, Lamont pulled his teeth shirt up over his head and left him the stumble around like a blind drunk. |
4:29.4 | The ref was ejected from CCN the following day. Right. |
4:36.4 | Along the way, you get promoted off of Copperhead and you had to leave the team. |
4:48.4 | There was a mission where Ricardo stood at 1-0 and Jim went on to a target. |
4:57.4 | The target was launched out of NKP and they get into Laos and the team got inserted on March 16th. |
5:09.4 | After the good insertion, there were on the ground and Jim was the radio operator. |
