Welcome to Horror Movie Club, the show where two dudes who are not quite nerds but not quite nobs.

Choose a horror movie each week to rate and review. I'm Brian. I'm on the phone with Ashman, and today we are concluding our sequel, September with 10 Cloverfield Lane from 2016, directed by Dan Tractonberg, written by Josh Campbell, Matt Stuckin, and Damien Chiselle,

starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman, John Gallagher Jr., and briefly Bradley Cooper in a

voiceover role. In this film, a woman is taken prisoner in a bomb shelter by a survivalist who

insists he's doing this for her own safety.

If you're new to the show, we're going to discuss some background info on this movie for the

first 15 or 20 minutes. We will keep that spoiler free, but after that, we're going to play

some transition music. And once you hear that music, it means we're going to walk through the

plot in detail,

spoiling things as we go, and also reviewing the film and commenting on it as we go along, too.

And then we'll rate it from zero to five.

We presented some options.

Ten Cloverfield won the vote, barely beat out Saw 2. That was a close race for a while. But some push back that this isn't technically a sequel.

We're pretty loosey-goosey with the rules of sequel September, so we're covering it anyway.

But yeah, it's really just kind of in the universe, right? Ash, it seems like Paramount was almost looking for anything that they could slap the Cloverfield name on.

Yeah, what do they call this, like a spiritual successor or something?

Yeah, I've heard it called a spiritual successor. I think that's what JJ Abrams called it, spiritual sequel or spiritual successor.

Yeah, it's kind of like in the same universe, I guess.

And that franchise is Cloorfield 2008, which we've never reviewed, a found footage film kind of like a kaiju
