Hi this is Steve. Vertigo has everything you expect to find in a Hitchcock film, a carefully planned murder, brilliant misdirection, suspicion, suspense, surprise, and a thrilling climax.

But like all great films, Vertigo both exemplifies

But I would argue that Vertigo is different because the drama in Vertigo comes not from the mechanical workings of the plot, but rather from the deep and unknowable conflict within a man's soul.

It is the character of Jimmy Stewart, obsessed, irrational, fragile, cruel, cruel controlling and desperate that haunts us and it's the mystery within that troubled soul that keeps us coming back again and again
