Summary

This week I spoke with Nicolas Glynos, who is Vice President of the Student Association for Psychedelic Studies and Co-founder of Psychedelic Neuroscience and Therapy for the University of Michigan. His latest work is focused on the compound DMT (N, N- Dimethyltryptamine), which exists within our bodies as well as throughout nature. (It's sometimes called "the spirit molecule.") Together we talk about the neurological picture of the brain when DMT has been administered--for instance, the impact DMT has on default brain network functions such as "mental time-travel/mind wandering" and "planning"--as well as all the other ways to measure the brain under psychedelics. Plus, we find out about the plant-based psychedelic ayahuasca. DMT, which if you don't know, is a substance that takes another dimension. By the way,

I don't know, I don't know, it's a dual stroke, it's currently illegal and I would never take it.

I don't take drugs. I haven't phrased it. In this part, we took out the neurological picture of

the brain when DMT has been administered, thoughts, mental time travel and planning, the many ways to

0:31.3

measure the brain under psychedelics, the challenge of remaining present when stimulated by states

of fear and distractions. Essentially, I try to get into the idea that spirituality is and

0:41.8

we have to find new ways of relating to our own consciousness in our life if we're going to

change the world. I'm trying to see how he is a person who studied DMT, feels that DMT's

a substance that might facilitate changing the world, so it's a pretty good chat. Stay to the end,

0:55.5

let me know what you think of it. Trying to achieve equality with the annihilation of category

is not a successful route. That's exactly right. We're in this era where it turns out we were never

the bus. That's the little black night. What's beneath the surface of people with my ideas that

define our time, the history we're told? Welcome to Russell Brand. And of this game.

Is it true that when you observe the brain of someone who's had DMT administered,

there is not more neurological activity but less? Depending on which areas you look in,

so a lot of the research has shown these regions called the default mode network,

which has been attributed to thoughts of mind wandering, mental time travel, planning,

preparation, things like that. That brain network seems to be subdued and activity seems to be

reduced. There's more than a dozen, there's several ways to measure the brain, to image the
