We live in an era where trust has collapsed between the American people and nearly every

important institution in the country.

This certainly includes America's political class, but it also includes America's media class.

Many journalists don't like to discuss this, but the simple truth is the American people have lost faith in both the news media and very specifically the people who deliver them the news.

We've seen this play out on Fox News.

We have seen the unbelievable corruption where people like Brett Baer are identified as being terrified of their audiences,

afraid of telling them the truth.

This is an important and fundamental question in a democracy.

If the lie and the truth stand equal in the public square, then democracy cannot survive.

Democracy cannot survive without journalism that pursues the truth.

It is among the most honorable professions in a democracy that there are so few trusted journalists

is not an indictment of the profession of journalism, but of the condition of the occupation.

There is a person who is a giant in the field of journalism, and she spoke.

She spoke to young people at Columbia University at a graduation.

Her name is Christian Aminpour.

She is a titanic figure in global journalism, who has put herself in harm's way to tell the American people

and citizens all over the globe what's happening in the world's most dangerous places.
