Summary

I had the opportunity to sit down with Justin Brierley to talk about Christian apologetics, the state of public discussions about faith, new converts, the identity crisis, and the rise of the “Christian atheist” with figures like Tom Holland, Jordan Peterson, and Ayaan Hirsi Ali intellectually aligning themselves with Christianity.

Justin Brierley is a freelance writer, speaker and broadcaster who has become known for creating dialogues between Christians and non-Christians. Justin is passionate about creating conversations around faith, science, theology, and culture. Through creative use of podcast, radio, print, video and social media, he aims to showcase an intellectually compelling case for Christianity, while taking seriously the questions and objections of sceptics.

Justin has worked in radio, podcast and video for over two decades. Until April 2023 he was Theology & Apologetics Editor for Premier Christian Radio, and hosted the Unbelievable? radio show and podcast as well as the Ask NT Wright Anything podcast. Justin was also editor of Premier Christianity magazine from 2014-2018, for which he continues to contribute articles.

I mean, and the interesting thing is, you know, I wrote the book, it got published in September

2023, but even since publication, there's been fascinating new examples of this. So Iyan Hursiali,

0:10.5

who I'm sure you're aware of the story of, who basically wrote that viral article for Unheard,

0:15.2

as a former new atheist herself, who would come from a very, you know, come out of a very

0:19.6

fundamentalist Muslim background in the

0:21.7

past, just saying it turns out atheism cannot sustain a meaningful life and I've decided to

0:28.9

embrace Christianity. And that's just such an interesting example of, I think, the thesis of the

0:33.5

book kind of happening in real time because it feels like something's changing. You know, secular, intelligent thinkers are giving Christianity another look.

0:42.3

And I find that quite exciting.

This is Jonathan Peugeot. Welcome to the symbolic world.

So hello, everyone. I am very happy to be here with Justin Briarley. Most of you will know his work. You know, for many years, he was the host of Unbelievable. And he is now working on a new podcast coming out of a book called the surprising rebirth of the belief in God. And it is completely in line with all the things that we've been doing. He's talking to everybody that is around this resurgence of the belief in God. And it is completely in line with all the things that we've been doing.

He's talking to everybody that is around this resurgence of the belief in God, the end

of the new atheist, the, the surprising characters that are converting to Christianity

1:36.8

are coming close to Christianity.

1:39.6

And so, Justin, it's really great to have you with me.

1:42.8

Oh, thank you.

1:43.4

It's an absolute pleasure to be on the show, Jonathan, as a regular listener myself.

So tell me a bit about this new project.

1:53.0

I mean, it's not that new.

1:54.1

It's been going on now for more than a year, I think.
