Now, the reason I'm going to talk about this one specific topic is because it is extremely

0:28.0

common. It affects between 30 and 50% of the population, and most of the people do not have any

0:34.2

idea that they have this problem. And it has to do with a genetic mutation. And since 30 to 50%

0:40.4

of the people watching this probably have this problem, it's very important to know more about it.

0:45.0

It involves this one gene called MTHFR. And it's a gene for a very specific enzyme. And the enzyme

0:53.0

that this gene activates is the MTHFR enzyme. Surprise, they call this gene the detox gene, but it does

1:02.8

a lot more. It's involved in creating neurotransmitters like adrenaline, dopamine, serotonin, GABA. And it's

1:10.0

also involved in hormonal regulation. But today I'm going to focus in on the detoxification part of this

1:17.9

enzyme. If you have a mutation or some type of alteration with this specific gene and you can get

1:26.9

it tested, you're going to lose between 25 to 80% of the function of that gene. I mean, just think

1:34.2

about this for a second. We are bathed in all sorts of chemicals, hormones, toxins, pesticides,

1:41.8

heavy metals, chemicals that alter our endocrine system, called endocrine disruptors, molds,

1:48.8

fungus, all these toxins, right? And if you have a situation where your ability to get rid of

1:54.7

these chemicals are turned down, 25 to 80% think about how that would affect you. Now, it might not

2:02.7

affect you if you live a completely clean life, right? No exposure to chemicals, everything is super

2:10.2

clean. Your diet is great, but that might not be the situation 100% of the time. So what this

2:15.6

gene does is it helps you methylate things. And basically, methylation involves adding this thing

2:23.1

to certain molecules, this methyl group, which helps things get activated. It basically just helps

2:29.8

you break down chemicals. It helps you make neurotransmitters, helps repair the DNA. So very simply,

2:35.8

it's something added to some biochemical pathway that allows it to work correctly. And this gene

2:41.4

revolves around folate, which is a B vitamin. And so you have a great difficulty converting

2:47.5

the folic acid to the active form of folic acid, which is folate. And this is why it's very,
