Summary

There have been a lot of efforts to assist veterans, but I remember listening to a comedian of all people who was asked if he supported the troops. He responded, "I think our government has learned that it's much cheaper to worship the troops than it is to care for them." Our veterans are honorable members of our society who serve the Republic. They should not be treated as victims, and they shouldn't be used as political pawns. Today's guest on MTA is someone who can speak to this with a level of authority on this issue. He served his country bravely, paid a heavy price for it, and has continued to serve, and I'm proud to call him a friend.

All right, hello and welcome to making the argument look. There have been a lot of efforts to

0:06.9

assist veterans. There's been a lot of movements. There's been a lot of private sector charities.

0:11.1

There's been a lot of public-private partnerships, government sector, VA. And there's been a lot of

0:16.2

awareness about things from everything from amputees to PTSD to veteran suicide. But I think one of the

0:24.6

most profound things I heard recently on this from all places came from a comedian. And this guy's

0:31.2

doing a stand-up bid and he says something and somebody from the audience asks him if he supports

0:36.0

the troops. And he looks at him, he goes, do I support the troops?

0:39.0

He goes, yeah.

0:40.5

And he goes, well, I can tell you this much.

0:42.2

I think our government has found out it's a lot easier to worship the troops than it is to take care of them.

0:47.9

And that hit me.

0:49.2

Man, that hit me for two reasons.

0:51.0

One, I don't disagree with them. But the second thing I will say is how you take care of the troops matters.

0:58.8

Because there's a lot of efforts out there.

1:00.4

There's a lot of nice sounding legislation and policies and whatnot.

1:03.6

And half the time I find myself looking at it going,

1:06.7

do you see me as a veteran or a victim?

1:09.6

Because I'm not a victim. And I don't know many veterans

1:13.7

that want to be treated that way. So how you address this situation matters. Because it's not

1:21.0

something you can simply throw money at and then walk away and think that we've done our job or that we've

1:25.6

done right by the people that have

1:27.5

served to protect this country.
