Every school teaches some body of knowledge.

Every book explains a body of knowledge in a certain sphere.

Every person has in their brain a body of knowledge.

And that knowledge can be about math, it can be about science, it can be about art, it can be about history, it can be about a number of things.

But what we're examining in 1 John is spiritual knowledge, literally the knowledge of God.

And I think this is so important to establish early in our study, but spiritual knowledge is not

gained by simply reading books, thinking deeply, conversing with people.

No, no. Spiritual knowledge is gained through faith.

God always begins everything he does in our life through faith.

Without faith, it is impossible to please him.

He that comes to God must believe that he is, and that is a rewarder of them that to please him. He that comeseth, the God must believe that he is,

and that is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

And that is why we begin our study of 1 John,

1 John chapter 1, the opening verses,

with John's statement of faith.

And I might add a call to faith for all of us.
