Back all the way up from 1 John chapter 1 to Genesis chapter 1, both of these chapters,

of course, referencing the beginning. And here's what you'll find.

When God created the world, the first thing he created was light.

He just simply said light and it was good.

And we read in Genesis chapter 1 and verse number 4,

God saw the light that it was good and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light that it was good, and God divided the light from the darkness.

And God called the light day and the darkness he called night. Our God has always been a

God of perfect unity and perfect division. He brings together what should be together. He

separates what should be separated.

It's really interesting to me that in the opening revelation of God in Genesis chapter number

one, he is both creator and divider. He divides many things. He divides the firmament above from

the firmament below. He divides the waters from the land.

He divides male and female.

But the first thing he does is he divides light from darkness.

Light never becomes darkness and darkness never becomes light.

And why is that principle important to 1 John chapter 1?
