In this podcast, Dr. Berg talks about Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA). Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Most of the time people would take BCAA to build muscle, but it is just a total myth. There are no human studies that show taking BCAA will increase muscle synthesis and it won’t also prevent muscle loss.
3 Types of Branched Chain Amino Acids
1. Leucine
2. Isoleucine
3. Valine
There are two intravenous studies that showed it decrease in protein synthesis. BCAA turns into fuel that may give you a little bit of energy while you are working out. The body needs all 9 essential amino acids for recovery, repair, and regrowth of proteins. 70% of muscle protein breakdown is recycled.
