Laura continues her interview with award winning investigative journalist, author and outdoors expert Kathryn Miles about her re-investigation into the double murder of Lollie Winans and Julie Williams, which is detailed in her book Trailed: One Woman’s Quest to Solve the Shenandoah Murders. At one point in 2002, the FBI said they had their man and filed charges against Darryl Rice.

But two years later, those charges were dropped after DNA failed to link Rice to the crime.

In a new book titled Trailed, Journalist Catherine Miles examines virtually every aspect of the case against Rice and comes away perplexed.

The only evidence that the FBI has ever been able to really pin on Rice is this very short one-minute phone call that he made to an LGBTQ support group in California.

His team claims that that was a misdial on his part that he was trying to call the grateful dead hotline.

In her book Miles Wright, the FBI should take a much closer look at Richard Markovonets,

who investigators say killed the list's sisters in Spotsylvania County in 1997.

Miles says hairs found at the Shenandoah crime scene were compared against Darryl Rice and Ivonets.

They tested them once. They ran it against both Darryl Rice and Markovonets.

At that time, the FBI lab ruled out Darryl Rice as the source of the hairs.

At that time, the FBI lab also determined that it could not rule out Ivonets because Ivonets matched in 799 out of 800 places in the DNA.

But Miles says she can find no evidence in her reporting the FBI followed up.
