Hello and welcome to my time capsule. My name's Mike Fenton-Stevens, and my time capsule is the podcast where people tell me five things from their life they wish they had in a time capsule. They pick four

things that they cherish and one thing they'd like to bury and forget. My guest in this episode

is Angus Deaton. Angus is one of my oldest friends. He was the man who cast me in the university

review that led to me becoming a professional actor, rather than the lawyer I was

supposed to be. So if you feel some sort of blame needs to be apportioned, start with him.

He's also rather private, so agreeing to be a guest on my time capsule is, as we discuss in

this episode, an act of generosity and friendship on his part, and of course blind self-interest

on mine. Still, as you'll hear,

I think that selfishness has paid off. Angus has had a fantastically successful career,

starting with me, Helen Atkinson, Wood, Jeffrey Perkins and Philip Pope, in the multi-award-winning

radio comedy Radioactive, which transferred to television as KYTV.

He was also the presenter of Have I Got News for You for many years, and the presenter

of Comic Relief, Would I Lie to You, in Search of Happiness, Bake Off Crem de la Crem,

and Hell's Kitchen, as well as being the other person in Rowan Atkinson's One Man

Shows for many years.

He was the neighbour of the Meldrews in One Foot in the Grave.

He was the host of Before They Were Famous, Top of the Pops,

the BBC New Year's Eve Show, the British Comedy Awards, and the BAFters twice.

He was in Alexis sales staff, Mr. Bean, Death in Paradise, Benidorm, Waterloo Road, Pramface,

Nighty Night, Absolute Power, and the films, Elizabeth, That Deadwood Feeling, savage hearts,

swinging with the Finkels, fat slags, and playing the Moldovans at tennis. And of course,
