My guest today is Eric Kaufman.

Eric is the author of a number of interesting books, including most recently The Third Awakening,

as well as Whitechift, and Shall the Religious Inherit the Earth?

We talked about the nature of the new identitarian ideology that now dominates parts of the left and the mainstream.

We have some interesting disagreements about whether this is a liberal ideology that stands

an explicit contrast to the liberal tradition, whether it is, in a sense, a wrong departure

within the liberal tradition itself. And it is, in a sense, a wrong departure within the liberal

tradition itself. And that also leads us to some interesting disagreements about how those

of us who worry about these ideas can stand up against them. In which ways and to what extent

it is possible for electoral majorities to push back against these ideas without themselves

running danger of becoming illiberal.

We also had a really interesting conversation about demography, thinking about the global

crisis of depopulation that is rapidly accelerating and asking whether small,

rapidly growing, deeply religious groups are set to become a majority of the United States,
