Summary

In Episode #22, I spoke with Thomas King, CEO and founder of Food Frontier, about cellular and plant-based meat alternatives and how they can save the world. Only 22 years old, Thomas is still one of the most impressive humans I have come across. At age 13, he set up the world’s most-visited website on unsustainable palm oil and the industry’s detrimental effects on the environment. In 2015, Thomas received the Young Australian of the Year award for his work as an environmental activist. Most recently, Thomas has become passionate about alternative meat solutions to help reduce the effect of our current food system on animals and the environment. In this episode, we discussed how Thomas’s passion for our environment developed and his role as an activist, as well as the current food system, its effects on our environment, and alternative meat solutions. Listen to find out what cellular or clean meat is, how it’s produced and regulated, and what the future of cellular meat and plant-based meat alternatives looks like. If you’d like to hear more from Thomas, check out Episode #115. Enjoy, friends. Simon Want to support the show? to do something for me. But clearly, if you don't ask, you don't get. So if you're enjoying

the show, if it's providing you value, please take 30 seconds and leave a review on Apple

to attract the brightest and most trustworthy people in science. My team and I have big

plans for the show where we want to be in 24 months and we need your help to make this

possible.

So what addresses all those main environmental, public health and animal welfare issues

0:45.1

associated with conventional meat? It still provides consumers with the food that they

0:49.0

know and love and we have to recognise that these things take time and that change is

0:54.9

difficult, especially when you're talking about change at a systemic level. And meat

0:59.2

is complex in terms of what it means to people and different cultures. You know, there

1:03.6

are complex cultural, social, economic factors that are underpinning people's choice to eat

1:08.9

meat.

1:09.9

Well, they're designed to eat more of it in places like Asia and I think we have to recognise

1:13.6

that and we can't ignore it. We need to meet people where they're at and these kinds

1:17.1

of alternatives are in my mind the highest impact solution to doing that because it means

1:21.6

people still can enjoy the food that they want, that they love, that they know, but without

1:26.4

those same adverse impacts on their health and the health of the world around them and

1:29.8

the health of animals.
