Can a person really know for sure that they have eternal life? Is it arrogant for a person to presume that he or she will go to heaven when they die?

Many years ago, I heard a man say that if you're doubting your salvation, you're doubting

one of two things. You're either doubting that the Lord can save, or you're doubting one of two things. You're either doubting that the Lord can save

or you're doubting that you've trusted him.

That is a very simple way to examine the doubts in your own heart.

We know the Lord can save.

Salvation is of the Lord.

We believe in the sufficiency of Jesus Christ

for salvation. But I do think very often, even sincere people, sometimes people who are even

very analytical and like to reason and logic things out can can so overthink it that they think,

well, did I really trust the Lord? And have I really put my faith in Christ?

And have I really believed like I ought to believe? And it is for that reason that God gives us

these beautiful identifying marks in 1 John, birth marks of the believer, so that you can know

that you are a child of God.

We come to the 15th in a long list as we progress through the book today,

and it's really an interesting passage in 1 John chapter 3, verses 21, 22, and 23.
