Hi folks welcome to the backcountry hunting podcast today. I'm Joseph

on Benedict and I want to talk about kind of an interesting side element of

hunting on today's scene and that's hearing protection.

So the importance of wearing hearing protection today is much more widely recognized

than it was when I was a kid.

Man, I never wore earplugs or earmuffs and my dad would sometimes suggest him but sometimes he wouldn't.

He just you know we didn't have the awareness back then at least in my family and a lot of the families I knew and the kids I shot with we didn't know that hearing once lost

Basically can be recovered because your your body doesn't regenerate that like it can some other elements.

So you know, particularly in light of the prevalence of the aggressive muzzle

breaks on today's rifles that's become something that's widely

recognizes that you just shouldn't shoot if you can help it at all in the field or at the

range or whatever without some kind of hearing protection. But there's still one

situation in which you almost never wear traditional hearing protection.

And that's when you're hunting dangerous games such as bears, Cape Buffalo, and the like.

Because in those situations, situational awareness can save your life and that requires unobstructed

hearing. Now there's a new product that's just hitting the market that I

believe is going to change that. And that brings us to my

guest today. I've got three very cool guys. There's Jonathan Harling, an old

pal of mine within the industry, reps a lot of cool companies,
