In your account of the election, you've argued that it's a mistake to see Donald Trump's

victory as resulting from a shift in the vote of the white working class in his

favor and I want to get to that point but before perhaps we could get your

account of the longer term background for it.

In other words it looks as if the long term re-strengthening of the Republican Party depended

on a crucial extent by its winning over some of the white working class that had
