I'm Oshfin, and I'm on the phone with Brian.

And on this week's episode, we're going to be talking about the 2024 film, Maxine, written, directed, and produced by Ty West, and starring Mia Gath, Elizabeth

Debicki, and Jean-Carlco Esposito. In this film, an adult film actress gets her first

big break in Hollywood in the 1980s, but she's haunted by events from her past and a killer

known as the Nightstocker.

If you're new to our show, we're going to have a spoiler-free discussion for the first

15 minutes, then we'll take a quick break, and then we'll come back, talk about the plot,

hit the spoilers, and get into our review of the film.

Brian, I know we're getting now into the peak of cinema and big screen horror.

How excited were you for this film?

I was pretty excited.

As usual, I feel like I can temper my excitement.

I don't go in expecting a certain idea of the film's aesthetic or the plot or anything

like that. I try not to think about it

too much other than the fact that I'm excited for it. And I walk in blind, having not

seen the trailer, and trying to scroll quickly past any sort of advertisements I see for the film.

So going in blind, but excited based on how much I enjoyed X and Pearl, which I don't think we've mentioned, but this is the third movie in the X trilogy from Ty West.

Yeah, good call.
