She had an amazing childhood and it's kind of like the irony of the

position of the girl who seemingly had everything who became an Olympic

champion and the girl born without legs actually had the better life.

jayana. And you talk a lot about this and a lot about what goes on behind the scenes and I think you've been

really pioneers sort of a pioneer as far as telling the truth and really opening people's eyes to what does go on behind

the scenes and you've seen we've seen some other gymnasts come forward and talk

about their experience as well and how you have sort of given them permission to do that or

bend that person that, you know, they know they can go to for advice or to tell things that they maybe wouldn't tell other people.

Why has that, what first inspired you to do that and why is it so important for you?

Oh, you know, I would say I was living in the same fear as a lot of these gymnasts for a long time. I was so scared to speak my truth. I was

scared of being ostracized. I was scared of having people say nasty comments who

didn't even know me who say things to you that they don't even know your situation.

I decided when I was going to write my book, it was a seven-year process.

It was hard. I was sitting at the computer oftentimes crying just letting out all the pain and all the hurt because I kept it in

There was some nights I cried myself to sleep because I was so sad and I'm like why is there

This void like why do I feel this pain that's so deep it's cuts and I didn't want to go to do unhealthy things for that pain, which a lot of people do.

And I did, there were times where I did a little bit, but I was able to get that under control

and not go off really, really bad.

And then Mike came into my life, you know, I was 19 and from 17 to 19 where I would say kind of my darker years where I just wanted to not think. I didn't want to think anymore of how hurt I was. I didn't even want to be around the sport.
