Thank you. True Crime Podcast. As of 2024, there are over 1.8 million people incarcerated in the United States.

Moreover, 2.7 million children in the United

States have a parent in jail or prison on any given day. While crime and incarceration can

negatively impact families, communities, and relationships all across the country, it's important

that we don't turn our backs on those who have been imprisoned.

Heather Rice Minus is the president and CEO of Prison Fellowship,

a Christian nonprofit organization dedicated to serving current and former prisoners, as well as their families.

Today, she joins me with a look back at the history of this important nonprofit,

its incredible advocacy work, and how you can make a difference in the lives of those who have

been impacted by incarceration. So Heather, tell us a little bit about the organization.

Why was Prison Fellowship created and tell us about some of the great work that you do?

Yes. So prison fellowship has actually been around for nearly 50 years now. In 2026, we'll celebrate our 50th year anniversary.

And we were started to bring restoration to those who were impacted by incarceration.

Our founder's story, the late Chuck Colson, is that he was perhaps first well known for his role in the Nixon administration.
