Are you a hopeful person? Sometimes in our world today, people say, well, I hope that turns out well.

They mean by that wishfully. Cross your fingers. Hold on. Maybe it'll turn out good.

No, no. The Bible word hope is a word of confidence. It is the hope that grows out of faith. It is the hope that is rooted in God's promise.

It is hope that is connected to reality. And this is the hope that really changes the life of a believer from the inside out.

Yet another mark, the 13th in our list, if you're tracking with me all the way through.

In the opening verses of 1 John chapter 3, it is the hope that enables you to conquer

sin and defeat Satan, not just someday, but now.

If you'll permit me, I'd like to read the first 10 verses of 1 John chapter 3 before I make

any other comments, and I want you to listen carefully with this thought, a purifying hope.

1 John chapter 3, behold, what manner of love the father

hath bestowed upon us that we should be called the sons of God. Therefore, the world know of us not

because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be,

but we know that when he shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. Whosoever commit a sin, transgresseth also the law,

for sin is the transgression of the law, and ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins,
