The week we've had an Austin Texas has been a long one.

What began as a lot of chatter last week regarding the weather came to a head when all Texas

and nightmares actually came true.

That terrible weather actually came and Texas was nowhere near able to handle things from

power standpoint.

As someone who grew up in northern Michigan where cold winters were a badge of honor, I underestimated

how truly terrible winter weather could affect somewhere not prepared for it.

The weekend prior, my wife and I did some grocery shopping enough to just last us a few

days.

We really didn't think much of it.

In my head, the worst case scenario would be working from home for a few days and I really

didn't think it would be much past that.

It wasn't until I woke up at 3 a.m. on Monday morning and noticed something.

Our apartment was pretty quiet.

Our ceiling fan had stopped running and the buzz of our heating was missing.

But again, I thought it would only last a couple of hours if that and we'd have full power

by the time I woke up.

Unfortunately for us and for countless others around the state, this was certainly not the

case, not even close.
