Summary

When protests erupted in Iran in fall of 2022, human rights activist and professional climber Nasim Eshqi was climbing in France. As she watched the uprising back home unfold, Nasim knew that returning home at that moment would mean arrest and imprisonment at the hands of the government. She doubled down on her criticism of Iran’s repressive regime and used her climbing to bring the struggle to the international climbing community. 0:49.3

And it's just hard to imagine the world that she'll grow up.

0:52.3

I mean, actually, I think that because it's

0:54.7

so hard to predict the future, it's hard to know what she'll actually live through in her lifetime.

0:59.0

But I think the thing that we're certain of is that we want her to feel comfortable with anything

1:03.9

and to feel confident taking on challenges. I mean, I think my biggest goal as a parent is to make sure

1:08.3

that she grows up unafraid of things. You know, I just don't want her to have weird phobias like, oh, I never go out in the dark

1:13.7

because it's so scary.

1:14.6

And you're like, what? Why?

1:15.6

You know, like, why have parts of your life closed off because you're afraid?

1:19.6

Yeah.

1:20.6

You know, it's like I want her to grow up feeling free to pursue whatever passions she has.

1:26.6

We both have kids, right?

1:33.9

And we're incredibly lucky to be in that spot where we get to have hopes like that, right?
