On May 18, 1960, a young man was born who would commit a truly devastating

massacre for motives that to this day remain a mystery. So if you like your coffee hot,

but your bones chilled, sit back and start your day with a morning cup of murder. On August 19,

1987, a young man, 27-year-old Michael Ryan,

grabbed a handgun and two semi-automatic rifles and made his way to the Savernake

Forest in Wiltshire, England. At 12.30 p.m., he walked straight up to 35-year-old Susan Godfrey

and her two preschool-age children,

as she loaded them back into her car after enjoying an afternoon family.

With absolutely no hesitation, he abducted the mother at gunpoint, walked her about 75 to 100 yards

away into the forest, where he had previously placed some ground sheet. And though police

would later say that his intention was to rape the woman, Michael took one of those weapons,

leveled it at Susan Godfrey, and pulled the trigger 13 times 10 yards away from where he set up.

There was no evidence of sexual assault, and her abandoned children were later found by a woman walking in the woods.

Driving east on the A4, Michael stopped at the Golden Arrow petrol station to fill both his car and a can.
