Our new story this week is from Right Move, who published their house price index for January.

This looks at asking prices, so it's not the full story,

but it's a useful data point when trying to peter together what's happening in the market and the sentiment of the market in particular, because asking prices are so much about confidence.

And according to their latest data, the average asking price in January has increased by 1.7%.

That sounds like a big number. January always gets a bounce,

so it's not unusual that it's a positive, but it is the biggest January bounce in five years.

And probably more important than that, but supply is up again as well. So the number of new

properties being listed is 11% ahead of last year. So I think the good news here is that the market is settled.

We've had so many years of weirdness. Of course, we had the COVID weirdness. Then we had the

interest rate spike, which took a couple of years for the market to really adjust to and people

to get to grips with. There was a lot of wait and see what's going to happen. But now mortgage
