0:00.0 | So today we want to talk about the gallbladder and relationship to intermittent fasting. |
0:27.1 | Some people have been complaining about gallbladder symptoms when they do intermittent fasting, and I'm going to give you some insights of why that could be. |
0:34.1 | First of all, let's cover the symptoms of a gallbladder problem. Usually you're going to get right-sided shoulder pain. |
0:41.1 | Now it could be up to the neck here, it could be out here, it could even be back here in this muscle right here. |
0:48.1 | It could be by your scapula, it could be by the mid back, but everything's going to be slightly on the right side. |
0:53.1 | You can even be on your head or jaw and cause even headaches on the right side of your head. |
0:58.1 | And then abdominal pain, mainly on the right side, underneath the right rib cage. |
1:03.1 | You'll feel a fullness of pain, feeling bloated, or you might experience burping or belching or nausea. |
1:10.1 | Now there's something that occurs in the gallbladder when you do a fast. |
1:14.1 | Now around 10 to 15 hours of fasting, you get this saturation of bile in the gallbladder. |
1:21.1 | Now think about it. When you eat, you're supposed to release the bile from the gallbladder. |
1:25.1 | It should contract, it has contractile tissue, and the bile should come right out to help you digest. |
1:31.1 | And the gallbladder releases its bile to help break down fat. |
1:35.1 | So when you're not eating, it just sits there and it gets more concentrated. |
1:38.1 | But the maximum concentrated bile occurs between 10 and 15 hours. |
1:43.1 | And this incidentally corresponds with a lot of these symptoms that someone has when they start doing it a minute fasting. |
1:51.1 | So in other words, the bile gets thick and it kind of gets sludgy. |
1:56.1 | In other words, the bile gets thick and we call that gallbladder sludge. |
1:59.1 | And it can just cause pressure in this area. |
2:02.1 | So you might be concerned, am I going to get a stone? What am I going to do? |
2:05.1 | Realize that after this peak, it goes down. |
2:09.1 | In other words, your body starts thinning the bile as you fast longer or if you just eat. |
