In this podcast, Dr. Berg talks about the 5 big Keto(ketogenic diet) myths that are completely wrong.

1. All that fat will give you a heart attack

Fat is only bad if you add the carbohydrates or carbs(refined sugar) with protein – a situation that could lead into a condition called Glycation.

2. Low carbs starve the brain

It is true that the brain runs on glucose but it can also run on ketones.

3. High protein diets cause bad breath

The ketogenic diet is NOT a high protein diet, it is a moderate protein diet. It is not the protein that causes the bad breath and constipation, it is the excessive carbohydrates.

4. Ketoacidosis is a dangerous side effects

Yes, it is a dangerous side effect – of a diabetic type 1 and a diabetic type 2 that is in insulin. Doing the healthy ketogenic diet could prevent someone from getting the diabetes and it will not cause ketoacidosis.

5. Eating butter and bacon fat is not sustainable long term

In the ketogenic diet, you are not consuming pure fat (like lard, bacon grease), you are eating a whole food with the fat with it.

0:50.3

Number one, all that will give you heart attack. Have you ever heard that before?

0:55.0

Absolutely not true.

0:56.7

Fat is only bad if you add the carbohydrates, okay? Like in, you know, ice cream for example. And if you add sugar or carbs with

1:05.7

protein, I'm not talking about vegetables and protein, I'm talking about sugar and protein, that's

1:09.9

bad because that combination creates what's called

1:13.7

glycation and it gets you develop sticky blood and all sorts of

1:18.4

protein end products that are very damaging to the tissue. So it's not bad for the heart because you're lowering your

1:25.6

carbohydrate. And at my next keto summit hopefully you can attend we have two

1:30.8

cardiologists that have been in practice quite a while and they're going to be speaking on this very topic so you might want to come to that.

1:37.5

All right, number two, low-carbon hydrate diets can starve the brain, right?

1:43.2

Because our brain needs carbohydrates or glucose.

1:45.6

It is true that the brain runs on glucose,

1:47.6

but it can also run on ketones, okay,

1:49.8

which is the byproduct of fat.

1:51.3

When you have neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, those

1:56.5

neurons are completely deprived of glucose, and that's why they're dying. But that's coming

2:01.7

from insulin resistance. What causes insulin resistance?

2:06.0

Chronic consumption of carbohydrates.
