I'll just start by noting that on the night of the Buddha's awakening he developed insight into how all things arise and exist

due to what's called causes and conditions.

That's kind of the epicenter

of Buddhist teaching, Paticha Samapata and Idi Paca Yata, the core founding principles, show that all of us exist due to causes and conditions.

So a cause is an event that precedes in time another event occurring.

There is a temporal quality, one thing causing the other.

So for example, a seed might cause a plant.

Or once something exists, the cause is no longer necessary for that thing.

Another example of a cause might be if you hit a billiard ball with a white ball, once that billiard ball with a white ball.

Once that billiard ball moves around, the white bowl can do what it wants.
