So over the years, I've noted a compulsion in many of the individuals I work with to tell me about behaviors that seem geared to bring about painful outcomes, emotional pain.

Now I'd like to be clear what I mean by this.

I'm not talking about

the kind of self-harming behaviors that involves purposely hurting one's physical body,
