In this podcast, Dr. Berg talks about the difference between virgin and extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil. Virgin olive oil means unrefined and no chemicals involved compressing the oil out and is very natural and pure. Refined olive oil is where they are using a chemical process, high heats which ends up to a very refined product with very less essential fatty acids, fewer phytonutrients and has no odor. And the extra virgin olive oil is the initial oil that comes out when they do the filtration process.

For the coconut oil, virgin means unrefined where they are not using high heat, bleach, and chemicals. And extra virgin coconut oil is just a marketing term. Both terms don’t have any difference.

Welcome to the Dr. Berg's Healthy Kito and Interminute fasting podcast, where Dr. Berg takes you on the journey for the truth about getting healthy and losing healthy weight. So recently I had a question, what's the difference between virgin and extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil?

0:51.8

So in their mind they had this idea that it had something to do with

0:54.5

the other definition of being a virgin. Okay? Well in this sense this is a different

1:00.3

definition. When they talk about virgin olive oil, unrefined, the cold press, okay? No chemicals

1:07.1

involved. They're pressing the oil out and it's very, very natural and pure, okay? When you get into refined olive oil, they're using a chemical

1:16.5

process, high heat and you end up with this product that's very refined. It has

1:22.4

less essential fatty acids, it has less phytol nutrients, if any,

1:28.0

and it has no odor, okay? And it's very light. And some people like that for cooking and things like that. I'm going to

1:35.1

recommend the extra virgin olive oil because that's the initial oil that comes out

1:40.8

when they do the filtration process.

1:42.6

There's a stronger odor to it.

1:44.8

Maybe it might not be good for cooking,

1:46.8

but it's great for on your salad.

1:49.7

Now when we get into coconut oil,

1:51.4

you see the word virgin. that also means unrefined okay they're not

1:55.8

using high heats they're not using bleach they're not using chemicals so you definitely want to go with the virgin coconut

2:05.1

oil. But when you see extra virgin coconut oil, just realize that's a marketing

2:10.1

term. There is no difference between the virgin or the extra virgin

2:14.7

coconut oil at all.
